Hangeo, Inc. ("Hangeo," "we," "us") operates the Hangeo platform for dance event discovery and community connection. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, share, and protect personal information when you use our website, mobile application, and related services (the "Service"). By using the Service, you acknowledge this Policy.
1. Information We Collect
Information You Provide
- Account and profile data — name, username, email, password, profile photo, bio, city, country, dance styles, dance role, skill level, notification and privacy preferences, and other profile fields
- Event data — event listings you create or interact with, RSVPs, event attendance history, and event feedback
- Communications — messages, feedback, and support requests you send us
- Launch list signups — email address and any optional information you provide when pre-registering for launch notifications
Information Collected Automatically
- Usage data — features accessed, events browsed, searches, content interactions, RSVPs, session duration, and navigation paths
- Device and network data — device type, operating system, browser type, unique device identifiers, IP address, and approximate location derived from IP
- Push notification tokens — when you enable push notifications, your device generates a unique push token (issued by Apple Push Notification Service or Firebase Cloud Messaging) which we store to deliver notifications. You can disable push in your device settings at any time, which invalidates the token.
- Log data — server logs, error reports, performance data, and timestamps
- Behavioral signals — click patterns, feature engagement, content preferences, and in-app behavior

Information from Third Parties
We may receive information from analytics providers, social login providers (if you connect a social account), and users who interact with you on the platform.
2. How We Use Your Information
Service Operation
- Creating and managing your account
- Displaying events, communities, and organizers
- Processing RSVPs and event interactions
- Facilitating connections between users
- Sending transactional emails (confirmations, reminders)
Personalization and Recommendations
We use your activity, dance style preferences, location, behavioral data, and engagement history to personalize your event discovery feed, rank content by relevance, recommend events and organizers, and build and continuously improve recommendation algorithms and machine learning models.
Analytics, Error Monitoring, and Product Development
We analyze platform activity to understand usage patterns, measure feature performance, conduct A/B tests and product experiments, and improve the Service. We use Vercel Analytics for website-level analytics, Sentry for error monitoring and crash reporting (which may collect device identifiers, stack traces, and operational context at the time of a crash), and similar tools. We may use behavioral and engagement data to train machine learning models, improve content ranking, and develop new product features.
"Aggregated Data" means data derived from platform activity that has been combined, summarized, anonymized, or de-identified such that it does not identify any individual user. Aggregated Data is not personal data. We may use Aggregated Data without restriction — including for machine learning, recommendation systems, platform analytics, product development, business intelligence, investor reporting, and commercial partnerships.
Email Communications
We use Loops.so as our email delivery platform. Your email address and relevant profile data are shared with Loops solely for sending you communications from Hangeo. We may send:
- Launch notifications and product announcements
- Platform news and feature updates
- Event recommendations based on your interests
- Transactional and operational messages
You may unsubscribe from marketing emails at any time via the unsubscribe link in any email. Transactional messages related to your account cannot be opted out of while your account is active.
Safety and Enforcement
We use data to detect fraud, abuse, spam, and violations of our Terms and Community Guidelines, and to enforce our policies.
3. Legal Basis for Processing (EU / UK Users)
For users in the European Economic Area, United Kingdom, or Switzerland, our legal bases include:
- Contract — account operation and service delivery (Art. 6(1)(b) GDPR)
- Legitimate interests — personalization, analytics, recommendations, product improvement, fraud prevention, and security (Art. 6(1)(f) GDPR)
- Consent — marketing communications; non-essential cookies (Art. 6(1)(a) GDPR)
- Legal obligation — compliance with applicable law (Art. 6(1)(c) GDPR)
Where we rely on legitimate interests, we have assessed that our interests are not overridden by your privacy rights. You may object to legitimate-interest processing at any time (see Section 6).
4. How We Share Your Information
- Other users — your public profile (name, dance styles, city, photo) is visible to other users; event listings and certain RSVP activity may be visible depending on your settings
- Service providers — we share data with vendors who help us operate the Service (cloud hosting, database, analytics, email delivery, error monitoring and crash reporting), under data processing agreements
- Email platform — email and relevant profile data is shared with Loops.so as a processor
- Error monitoring — crash reports and operational context may be shared with Sentry as a processor when the app encounters errors
- Organizers — if you RSVP to an event, the organizer may receive your name and shared information; organizers' use of your data is governed by their own practices
- Business transfers — in a merger, acquisition, or asset sale, your information may transfer to the acquiring entity under equivalent privacy protections
- Legal requirements — we may disclose information when required by law, court order, or government request, or to protect our rights or users' safety
- Aggregate data — we share aggregated, de-identified data with partners, investors, and researchers without restriction
We do not sell your personal information to third parties for their independent marketing purposes.
5. Data Retention
- Account data — retained while active; deleted within 90 days of a verified deletion request
- Usage and behavioral logs — retained in identifiable form up to 24 months; retained indefinitely in aggregate or de-identified form
- Email communications — retained up to 36 months or as required by law
- Launch list signups — retained until 24 months after the Service's public launch, or until you request deletion
- Error and crash reports — retained up to 90 days by our error monitoring provider
6. Your Rights
Depending on your jurisdiction, you may have rights to:
- Access — request a copy of the data we hold about you
- Correction — request correction of inaccurate or incomplete data
- Deletion — request deletion of your personal data, subject to legal retention obligations
- Portability — request your data in a structured, machine-readable format
- Objection — object to processing based on legitimate interests or for direct marketing
- Restriction — request restriction of processing in certain circumstances
- Withdraw consent — where processing is based on consent, withdraw it at any time
To exercise your rights: support@hangeo.app. We respond within 30 days. We may verify your identity before processing requests. EU/UK users may lodge a complaint with their local supervisory authority.
7. International Transfers
Hangeo is based in the United States. Information transferred from the EEA, UK, or Switzerland relies on Standard Contractual Clauses or other lawful transfer mechanisms.
8. Security
We implement administrative, technical, and physical security measures. No security system is impenetrable. We cannot guarantee absolute security. If you believe your account has been compromised, contact support@hangeo.app.
9. Minors
The Service is intended for users 18 and older. We do not knowingly collect personal information from anyone under 18. If we discover we hold data from a person under 18, we will promptly delete it.
10. Changes
We may update this Policy from time to time. Material changes will be communicated via email or prominent notice on the Service. Continued use after changes become effective constitutes acceptance.
